Time it was.

And what a time it was,
It was . . .

A time of innocence,
A time of confidences.
Long ago ... it must be . . .
I have a photograph.
Preserve  your  memories;
They're all that's left you.

1. Each day teachers will fill lamps, clean
chimneys, and trim wicks.

2. Each teacher will bring a bucket of
water and a scuttle of coal for the day
session.

3. Pens should be made carefully. They
may be whittled to the individual taste
of the pupil.

4. Men teachers may take one night each
week for courting purposes, or two
evenings a week if they go to church
regularly.

5. After school teachers must spend the
time until supper reading the Bible and
other good books.

6. Women teachers who marry or engage
in unseemly conduct will be discharged.

7.

9.

Every teacher should lay aside from
each month's pay a goodly sum for his
benefit during his declining years so
that he will not become a burden on soc-
iety.

Any teacher who smokes, uses liquor
in any form, frequents pool halls or
public halls, or gets shaved in a barber
shop, shall give good reason to suspect
his worth, integrity and honesty.

The teacher who performs his duties
regularly and faithfully and without
fault for five years, will be given an
increase of 25 cents a week in his pay,
providing the Board of Education ap-
proves.

The Sutton Soccer team concluded
another very successful season this
November. The team won the Dual
Valley Conference title with a record
of 12-1-2, and was eligible for the
District 111 Tournament. Sutton was
eliminated in the semi-finals by a
very tough opponent, Quabbin Region-
al. Still it was a truly great season
for a very young team, one that shall
be heard from in future years.

First year Soccer Coach William
Ellis played a major role in the team's
success this year. Though the team
lost seven players from last year's
squad. Coach Ellis found the right
players for each position. Four
players were selected to the con-
ference All -Star team and three of
them were placed on the Central Mass.
All -Stars, this years team was a
tribute to not only the players, but to
Coach Ellis.

Another factor contributing to
Sammie Success was the combination
forward-halfback lines that were the
offensive punch of the team. Senior
Bob Corey and his Junior partner Bob
Magner, who were co- scoring leaders

in the league, led the Sammie attack
that scored 3.61 goals per game.

Freshman Fran Cichy and Brian
Bickford were pleasant additions to the
line. Kevin Swart and Phil Beckwith
rounded out the high scoring machine.

The Halfback corps was very
strong, comprised of three outstand-
ing rookies. Sophomore Kevin Bickford
was the center of the line flanked by
Gary Eaton and Donald Jacques, a
Junior and Freshman respectivly.

A good offense many times has a
superior defense. "The Super Senior
D" was truly super. Allowing only 17
goals all year, those responsible were
all Seniors. Paul Flagg, Dave
Peterson, and Jim LaCava did a great
job. Three -year Goalie Pete
Gvazdauskas was injured for much of
the season but came up with seven
shutouts. Andy Mosher did a good job
while filling in for Pete in six games.

The outlook for the 1976 team is
very good indeed. With a great year
behind us the Dual Valley League
Trophy may remain in Sutton for a
number of years.

Field Hockey

Even with the loss of three ex-
ceptional seniors from last year's
squad, the shinguards experienced a
good year. Shelia Boutilier filled the
boots as coach for this year's team
and did a fine job leading the girls
to a winning season of 7-5-3, taking
second place in the Dual Valley
League.

The four seniors were Wendy
Annis, Allison Eaton, Ann Klewiec,
and Wendy Hoist who served as Cap-
tain this year. Susan Millet, Janet
Messier and Wendy Hoist were suc-
cessful in making the Dual Valley
League All Star Team. The Shin-
guards are looking ahead to a most
promising team next year, after com-
pleting a very successful season with
a 6-3-2 mark and taking first place in
the league.

This year's cross country team
went into the season under the lead-
ership and guidance of new coach,
Mr. Michael Hood. The captains of
this year's team were Chris Morano
and Dave Harting, both Juniors. The
team started strong, running a new
course. They improved their Dual
Valley record of last year (2-8) and
lost some close contests.

Running first for the team was
Chris Morano, breaking the old
school course record four times.
Dave Harting ran a consistent sec-
ond all year though hampered by

Injuries at the beginning of the sea
son. Harting broke the former
school course record held by Morano
in the last meet by finishing at a
blazing 14.49 minutes.

A pleasant suprise for the team
was Ronnie Annis, a Sophmore. Ron-
nie ran third and ocasionally second.
Wayne Carrier, a Junior, ran for
the first time and placed for the
Sammies.

Coach Hood is confident for next
year with all his runners returning
and a year of experience behind
them.

The Advocator Staff was head-
ed this year by Christopher Mor-
ano, with Donna Reidy as his as-
sistant editor. The team adopted a new
masthead along with some new ideas.
Patterned after Donna's Doodles of
five years past, Donna Reidy has a
new column entitled Reidy's Ramblings,
where students' activities and achieve-
ments are brought to light. Feature
articles in the paper focused on some
of Sutton's noteworthy citizens. Early
in the year, the staff attended a Scho-
lastic Newspaper Conference where
they received some instruction from
accomplished editors. Although the
newspaper has received no awards,
the Staff is confident that their pro-
duction upholds the fine reputation of
the Advocator.

Jazz Band The High School Band, under the direction

of Richard Holland, began the year's activi-
ties in October with appearances at the Dudley
and Worcester Elm Park Elementary schools.
The Fall Concert was held in Noveniber, with
the A Band and Jazz Band performing. Decem-
ber was a busy month for the musicians, who
were invited to play at the W. T. A. G. Studios
in the Christmas for Children Radiothon, as
well as giving two concerts: one for Grafton
High School, and one for elderly residents of
Sutton.

In February, the Jazz Band entered the
Central Massachusetts Band Competition for
the first time. The Jazz and A Bands performed
in March at the Auburn Mall. The year was
a full one, seeing eighteen performances and
two parades. Band activities included an ex-
cursion to Nantasket Beach, as usual, and a
trip to see the Boston Pops. The Spring and
Humanities Day Concerts ended the band's
school-year activities, but Mr. Holland is pre-
paring for a final concert on July 5 in cele-
bration of the Bicentennial. He plans for the
Mr. Holland doing what he does first time to organize a community band to
best. include school members, graduates, and

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: the editors of EXITUS 1976 would like to express their appre-
ciation to the following people for their contribution tothe production of this book: to the
Staff, whose output and cooperation were unsurpassed in recent years; To Mr. Grant
and those members of the faculty who gave the editors liberty from attending class
when deadlines loomed; to Mr. Keegan, without whose photographic skill most of these
pages would be blank; to Mrs. Keegan, tireless advisor, now marking her tenth year
on The Book; to Mrs, Shaw, emergency photographer and researcher, who provided
the antique family photo album after which this book is designed; to the students, who
provided moral support by their interest in the book and effort on the ad drive; and to
all the people who periodically took time from their schedules to smile and be photo-
graphed, we say thanks.
